Does my tile need to be sealed?

In most cased the answer is no. Ceramic and porcelain tiles will either be glazed or have such a low absorption rate that at sealer is not required. Sealing is ALWAYS recommended for natural stone. Epoxy and some latex modified grouts do not need to be sealed but it is recommended that cement based grouts be sealed.

Do I need to install a waterproof membrane on my shower walls?

As a general rule, a waterproof membrane is only required for the shower floor and up the walls a minimum of 6 “. In the case of a steam unit, waterproof membranes are required for shower floors, walls, and ceilings.

Can my tile be installed outside?

Many porcelain, stone and glass tiles can be installed in exterior installations but the tile manufacture’s recommendations should be sought and followed. Exterior installations may require specific methods of installation. TCNA and setting material manufactures recommendations should be followed.

How do I finish the edges of my tile?

Many manufactures produce finished edge pieces to compliment their field tile. In the cases where a tile company does not manufacture a finished edge, it can be addressed with another product such as a decorative trim, bar, or metal edge. Many of the metal edge trims will provide needed protection from abuse in commercial applications as well.
